A hearing loss in one ear can lead to increased difficulty in background noise, trouble locating where sounds are coming from, and the inability to perceive sounds on the side with hearing loss. Mild hearing loss can typically be amplified with traditional hearing aids; however, a new system has been created to help individuals with more severe single sided hearing loss. The CROS (Contralateral Routing of Signal) system consists of two hearing devices. Each device performs a unique task. The worse ear wears a microphone and the better ear wears a receiver. The microphone picks up sound on the worse side and sends it over to the receiver to be heard by the better ear and processed by the brain. This increases the patient’s ability to localize where sounds are coming from and perceive more auditory information. Schedule your no obligation consultation today with one of our Doctors of Audiology at Alexandria Hearing Centers, to determine if the CROS system is an option for you!
